Alan was born and educated in Guernsey and is the founder of Richmond. His early career was in the civil service, before joining the finance industry in 1981. Alan subsequently joined the Trust Department of the Merchant Bank, Rea Brothers (Guernsey) Limited in 1982, and became Manager of the Department in 1986, reporting to the Director responsible for the Fiduciary and Fund departments within the Bank.
Alan resigned from Rea Brothers in July of 1988, to establish Richmond Corporate Services Limited, which has now developed into Richmond Fiduciary Group Limited.
Since 1988, Alan has been responsible for the development of the Group from its small beginnings to one of the leading independent trust companies in Guernsey. Richmond, under Alan’s guidance, has established client bases in the UK, Europe, Central and Southern Africa and the Middle East. He is now working to establish client bases in India and China.
During the development of Richmond, which was initially established as a vanilla trust and company service provider, Alan has introduced expertise in the areas of UK property investment and development, international pensions, and the formation of a subsidiary company, which has been accepted as a Category 1 Member of the Channel Islands Stock Exchange, which allows the company to act as a Sponsor and Listing Agent
As Chairman, Alan is also responsible for the Group’s compliance with the GFSC Finance Sector Code of Corporate Governance, which has been issued by the Regulator to ensure that all companies operating in the financial services sector adopt good corporate practice.
Alan became a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) in January 1996.
